William Allan Hill
Fate dealt a cruel hand to Lance Sergeant William Allan Hill. In the frenetic pace of the D-Day Landings, a tragic accident happened, stealing the life of the young soldier before he’d had a chance to fight. His friend Bill Cheall could never forget what happened to his comrade, who was nicknamed ‘Rufty’.
Bill's son, Paul, wrote a book about his Dad's wartime experience entitled 'Fighting Through From Dunkirk To Hamburg' and shares the story of 'Rufty' as well as Captains Linn and Chambers, all of whom fought with 6th Green Howards and perished in Normandy.
