French Government Gifts Avenue of Seventy Trees to Mark Platinum Jubilee

An avenue of seventy trees, one for each year of the Queen’s reign, has been gifted by the French Government to the Normandy Memorial Trust.

The hornbeam trees will be planted along the Memorial Walkway on the Eastern side.

This project is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a tree planting initiative created to mark the Jubilee. To ensure future generations continue to remember, the youth council of Ver-sur-Mer has been tasked with planting the trees in the autumn.

Honorary President of the Trust, Lord Peter Ricketts, said the gift is a “wonderful addition to a monument which is itself a symbol of the deep links between Britain and France.”
