Edward Allan
This story is shared by the Trust with kind permission from Mavis Williams, Researcher. Photo courtesy of IC and TC, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
Edward Allan was born on the 6th of November 1921 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, the eldest of two sons of John & Jessie Macfarlane Allan (née Cunningham). They were married in 1920 and lived at 231, St George's Road before moving into other lodgings at 200 St George's Road, Glasgow a few months before Edward's birth. A second son, Ian Robert Allen, was born in 1925.
By the war starts on the 3rd of September 1939, Edward Allan was not quite 18 years old, but unfortunately I do not know anything about his childhood or teenage years.
At the time of his death, the probate records show that he was living 64 Earlspark Avenue, Newlands, Glasgow. He is remembered for his sacrifice and because he died in England at Hartford Bridge, his family were able to bury him in the family plot at Cathcart Cemetery.
