George Adams
This story is shared by the Trust with kind permission from Mavis Williams, Researcher.
George Adams was born on the 22nd of November 1923 according to the 1939 National Register, one of eight children of Thomas & Jane Rebecca Adams (née Frampton). His father had served in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the First World War and then in the Dorset Regiment from 1921-1923.
The family first lived at 2 Friary Buildings, Dorchester but had move to 7 Friary Lane by 1939. Dorchester was a brewery town so it is not surprising to see that George was working as a Brewers Labourer. It is not known when George joined up but he ended up serving in one of the the same regiments that his father had, namely the 1st Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment.
The 1st Battalion landed on Gold Beach on D-Day but he was wounded at some point that day and died of his wounds. He was first buried at Asnelles-sur-Mer and then reintered in the Bayeux Military Cemetery on the 18th November 1944.
