The photo in which Trooper Blackett is seen was taken by Lt Tanner, an official war photographer, on 25 June 1942. The photo caption reads: "Trooper Bill Blackett, the driver of a Valentine tank of 29th Armoured Brigade, 11th Armoured Division, chats to Pat Brooker, aged 5, during a halt in the village of Rottingdean in Sussex, 25 June 1942. Before the war he was a gardener in Durham."
